As Liberal Democrats, we believe that the majority of industrial relations laws hurt employees and employers, and cause unemployment and dependency. They only help union leaders, lawyers and bureaucrats.
That’s why we are committed to the abolition of the minimum wage (if you want to work for less, then you should have that right, just as an employer should have the right to set their own wages policy, without government intervention), and the abolition of industry awards.
The Liberal Democrats would also remove the restrictions on negotiating employment contracts, including the obligation to negotiate with unions, and restrictions on agreements between employers and individual employees. We would remove the requirements for union entry on to premises, along with restrictions which hinder workers wishing to operate as independent contractors.
Your labor is yours to offer, or to withdraw as you see fit. Those are key rights, and the Liberal Democrats WA respect them.
